How STC rebates work
The federal rebate comes as Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Solar is covered by the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), and batteries are covered by the Cheaper Home Batteries Program (CHBP), which the government says takes around 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery. Households, businesses and community organisations can all claim. You can qualify even if you purchased your components separately.
The rebate is not cash back from the government. You assign the certificates your system creates, and the value comes back to you. Below is what your system actually has to satisfy.
Our prices do not include the rebate
The prices shown on our product pages are the full price. The rebate is not taken off at checkout. You pay the invoiced amount, and your rebate is processed after your system has been installed and commissioned, because eligibility cannot be confirmed until the install is done and compliant. The Rebate Customer Agreement sets out exactly how this works.
Solar
Do you qualify?
- System no larger than 100 kW, generating under 250 MWh a year. Almost every home system sits well inside this.
- Panels and inverter must be CEC approved and listed at the time of installation.
- Designed and installed by an SAA accredited designer and installer with the right endorsement.
- The system must be fully operational and compliant.
- STCs must be claimed within 12 months of installation.
Battery
Do you qualify?
- Battery between 5 kWh and 100 kWh nominal capacity. Certificates are only created on the first 50 kWh of new or added usable capacity.
- It must be paired with solar, either an existing system or a new one going in at the same time.
- A battery that only stores grid power, with no solar at the property, is not eligible.
- Installed by, or supervised on site by, an SAA accredited battery installer.
- Battery must be CEC approved and listed at the time of installation.

Batteries: one claim per property
The battery rebate can be claimed once at any given property, and it is calculated on the capacity you install at that time. Capacity added later sits outside the rebate, as does a replacement battery down the track. It also cannot be claimed again if the battery is moved to a different property.
So it is worth sizing for where you want to end up, not just where you are today.
Two timing rules worth knowing
Since 1 May 2026 the battery rebate is tiered by size. The first 14 kWh earns the full rate, every kWh from 14 up to 28 kWh earns 60%, and every kWh from 28 up to 50 kWh earns 15%. Bigger is still better, but the value per kWh tapers off.
Your rebate is set by the date the system is installed, not the date you sign or pay. Signing early does not lock in a rate.
For solar, the number of certificates is based on a deeming period that drops by one year every January until the scheme ends in 2030. Installing this year earns more certificates than the same system installed next year.
