Why should I choose Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved products?

The Clean Energy Council (CEC) is an Australian organisation that maintains a list of approved solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters and batteries that meet Australian Standards for use in the design and installation of solar and battery storage systems.
When selecting system components, these lists should always be referred to, prior to performing a design or installation. Only systems with products from the approved lists are eligible to receive small-scale technology certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

Choosing CEC-approved products for your solar system and batteries has several benefits:

  • It ensures that you are purchasing high-quality products that meet Australian Standards. These products have been tested and verified to be safe, reliable, and efficient.
  • It guarantees that your system is eligible for STCs under the SRES. This means that you can receive a financial incentive for installing a solar system or battery storage system in your home or business. Keep reading below to learn more about SRES and STC's.
  • Choosing CEC-approved products ensures that your system is compatible with other components of your solar system or battery storage system. This compatibility ensures that your system operates efficiently and effectively, maximizing the amount of energy generated by your solar panels or stored in your battery.
  • CEC-approved products come with warranties that protect you against defects in materials and workmanship. These warranties provide peace of mind and ensure that you are protected against any issues that may arise with your solar system or battery storage system.
  • By choosing CEC-approved products, you're supporting the growth of the renewable energy industry in Australia, whilst also supporting manufacturers and suppliers who are committed to producing high-quality renewable energy products.

Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) is a financial incentive program created by the Australian government to encourage households and small businesses to install eligible small-scale renewable energy systems such as solar panel systems, small-scale wind systems, small-scale hydro systems, solar water heaters and air source heat pumps. Each megawatt hour of renewable energy generated/or displaced by the system is awarded one small-scale technology certificate (STC). STC's are calculated from installation date until the end of 2030 when the scheme ends.
System owners typically assign the right to an agent to sell STC's on their behalf to receive an upfront lower purchase price, however system owners can alternatively claim and sell the STC's themselves.
