The Fronius Primo GEN24 SCERT range is the Selectronic certified solar inverter built to talk directly to your SP PRO, so your solar, your batteries and your backup all work as one system.

Requires a Selectronic SP PRO Series 2i, or a Series II with the upgrade kit, running firmware 15.23 or higher with Advanced Comm Card firmware 5.02 or higher. SP PRO Series 1 is not compatible with the GEN24.

Choose your size from 4kW to 10kW. Every model in the range carries the same Selectronic certification, the same two MPP trackers and the same IP66 outdoor rating, so you only need to pick the output that suits the array. All five sizes are CEC approved and made in Austria.

What Selectronic Certified Actually Means

A standard solar inverter and a battery inverter can share a site, but they cannot really co-operate. The SCERT models run hardware and firmware that let the Fronius take instructions from the Selectronic SP PRO, so the SP PRO can dial the solar output up or down as the house load and the battery state of charge change through the day. Selectronic call this Managed AC Coupling, and they have been refining it since 2010.

In practice the Fronius behaves like an AC MPPT hanging off the SP PRO. Solar goes straight to whatever the house is using, and anything spare flows back through the SP PRO to charge the batteries or head out to the grid. Nothing is wasted deciding who is in charge.

Main Features

  • Selectronic certified: factory certified for Managed AC Coupling with the SP PRO, so the two inverters share information instead of fighting each other.
  • Five sizes, one platform: 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 kW, all single phase, so you can match the inverter to the array without changing how the system is designed.
  • Two MPP trackers: split the array across two roof faces or two string lengths and each one still finds its own best operating point.
  • Room to grow the array: up to 6 kWp of panels on the 4.0 and up to 15 kWp on the 10.0, so you can oversize the solar for winter without hunting for a bigger inverter.
  • Up to five per system: a single SP PRO Phase Manager can control up to five GEN24 Primo units, which is how larger off grid and hybrid sites are built out.
  • Off grid or on grid: off grid works with any SP PRO Series 2i or Series II fitted with the Advanced Comms Card. For grid connected work the SP PRO must be an SPMC480-AU, SPMC481-AU, SPMC482-AU, SPLC1200 or SPLC1202 set up to AS/NZS 4777.2:2020. The SPMC240-AU, SPMC241-AU and SPMC1201 are not approved for on grid use with the GEN24.
  • Built for outside: IP66 rated, rated from -40°C to +60°C and happy in full sun or an unlined shed, so you are not forced into wall space indoors.
  • Active cooling: regulated air cooling holds output up on hot afternoons rather than backing off early.
  • Integrated DC isolator: the DC disconnector, DC isolation measurement and reverse polarity protection are all built in, so there is less to mount and wire beside it.
  • Monitoring with no extra box: Wi-Fi, two Ethernet ports, a built in datalogger and web server, plus Fronius Solar.web for the numbers on your phone.
  • Open to other gear: Modbus TCP SunSpec, two RS485 Modbus RTU ports and the Fronius Solar API let it sit alongside a Fronius Smart Meter, an Ohmpilot or third party equipment.
  • Quick to install: push in tension clamp terminals, 180° quick release screws and a proper wall mounting system, which keeps your installer's time on site down.

Sizing Your System

Check the SP PRO firmware first. The SP PRO needs version 15.23 or higher and the Advanced Comm Card version 5.02 or higher before it will talk to a GEN24. The GEN24 Primo SCERT supports a two to one ratio of solar inverter capacity to battery inverter capacity, so the SP PRO you already have, or are planning, sets the sensible ceiling on solar.
