The Deye SUN-20K-SG01HP3-AU-AM2 is a 20kW three phase hybrid inverter built around a high voltage battery, for larger homes and commercial sites.

This model needs a high voltage battery in the 160V to 700V range, not the 48V modules used by the low voltage Deye inverters. Check your battery before ordering.

Your solar powers the site first, anything spare charges the battery, and only what is left after that goes out to the grid. When the grid drops out the inverter switches you over on its own. Approved by the Clean Energy Council and built to the Australian grid standard.

Less loss, thinner cable

High voltage batteries move the same energy at a fraction of the current, so you lose less as heat and the cable runs are easier.

Backup built in

The transfer switch is already inside the inverter, so there is no separate change over box to buy or wire in.

Scales to 35A on one phase

Handles an uneven load across the three phases, which is what real sites actually look like.

Why high voltage

A low voltage system runs the battery at around 48V, so moving serious power means moving serious current, and that means heavy cable and more energy lost as heat. A high voltage battery does the same work at anywhere from 160V to 700V, so the current stays low.

The practical result is a tidier, more efficient installation at larger sizes. It is the usual choice once you get past about 10kW, and it is why this inverter only charges at 50A while still moving 20,000W.

Built for three phase sites

Output is 29A per phase at 230/400V, and the inverter will carry up to 35A on a single phase when the load is uneven. That matters on real sites, where one leg usually ends up running the workshop or the air conditioning while the other two sit lighter.

There is also a 80A smart load output and a generator input, so you can shed or prioritise a specific circuit rather than treating the whole site as one block.

Power when the grid goes down

An automatic transfer switch is built in. When it sees the grid fail it moves your backed up circuits across to the battery, so the site keeps running rather than dropping out and coming back.

The changeover takes about 4 milliseconds, which is fast enough that sensitive equipment does not notice it. A generator can also be wired in and used to charge the battery, which is worth having on rural sites where an outage can run for days.

Adding more solar later

The inverter can AC couple to micro inverters or an existing grid tied solar system, at up to 29A. A second array can sit well away from the inverter, on a shed or a second roof, without long DC cable runs back.

Approved for Australian sites

Clean Energy Council approved and built to AS/NZS 4777.2, so it can be signed off by your installer and counted toward government incentive schemes. IP65 rated, so it can be mounted outside without a weather box over it.
