Fronius

Fronius International is an Austrian manufacturer that has been in business for over 75 years.

Fronius is a global leader in solar energy technology, developing high-performance grid-connected inverters since 1992. The company entered the Australian market in the early 2000s and established Fronius Australia Pty Ltd in 2010, with a dedicated facility in Tullamarine, Victoria.

Known for quality, reliability, and advanced features, Fronius inverters are widely used across residential, commercial and industrial solar installations throughout Australia.

In addition to solar inverters, Fronius offers a range of smart energy solutions to increase solar self-consumption and system efficiency. This includes the Wattpilot range of EV chargers, the Ohmpilot for solar-powered water heating and advanced monitoring tools for real-time performance analysis. These products integrate seamlessly with Fronius inverters, delivering a complete energy management system tailored for modern solar-powered homes and businesses.

Fronius inverters are designed with sustainability in mind.

The company uses more than 90% recycled aluminum in the aluminum heat-sink of its inverters. Fronius Gen 24 range also has a modular design that allows for easy replacement of parts in the field without shipping the whole unit to Fronius for repairs, whilst also offering a higher service lifetime.  

Fronius GEN24 vs. GEN24 Plus: Understanding the Differences

The Fronius GEN24 and GEN24 Plus are both advanced solar inverters designed to provide reliable energy solutions. While they share many features, there are key distinctions regarding backup power capabilities and battery integration:

Fronius GEN24
• PV Point Backup: Equipped with an integrated PV Point, it offers basic backup power functionality. This allows for supplying single-phase loads up to 3 kW via a dedicated socket during a grid outage, using available solar energy when the sun is shining.
• Battery Compatibility: Does not support battery storage integration out of the box. However, with the optional Fronius UP.storage software upgrade, battery functionality and full backup capabilities can be added. 

Fronius GEN24 Plus
• Enhanced Backup Options: Includes both the PV Point feature and the capability for Full Backup. When combined with a compatible battery storage system it can supply power to the entire home during a power outage.
 • Battery Integration: Fully compatible with battery storage systems such as the BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM, enabling energy storage for use during night time or grid interruptions. (See notes on Fronius Up below).

Fronius Up:
The Fronius GEN24 provides you with many of the advantages of generating your own energy. With “Fronius UP”, your PV system becomes even more flexible. That’s because this optional software update turns the Fronius GEN24 into our Fronius GEN24 Plus hybrid inverter with all its functions and advantages – from the connection of a battery storage system to the “Full Backup” emergency power function.

With CEC (Clean Energy Council) approval across the range, they are also compliant with AS4777.2:2015.

Fronius Wattpilot Home, Go & Flex – Smart EV Charging with Solar Priority

Fronius Wattpilot EV chargers enable dynamic, solar-optimised charging for electric vehicles using Fronius inverters and smart meters.

• Wattpilot Home – Fixed wall-mounted charger, ideal for residential use.

• Wattpilot Go – Portable EV charger for flexible use at home or while travelling.

• Wattpilot Flex – A hybrid solution combining portability and fixed-install capabilities.

All models feature automatic 1-phase/3-phase switching, adjustable charge rates (up to 22 kW), and Type 2 compatibility. Control charging modes (Eco or Next Trip) using the Fronius Solar.wattpilot app. Designed to work seamlessly with solar PV systems for efficient, surplus-based charging.

Fronius Ohmpilot – Divert Excess Solar to Water Heating

Fronius Ohmpilot is a power flow management device that diverts surplus PV energy to resistive heating loads, including electric hot water systems and space heaters.

• Compatible with Fronius inverters and smart meters.

• Supports up to 9 kW output with continuous power modulation.

• Ideal for increasing solar self-consumption and reducing gas or grid reliance for water heating.

The Ohmpilot ensures solar energy is used efficiently within the home before exporting to the grid, making it a valuable add-on for all-electric households.
