The Deye SUN-8K-SG05LP1-AU is a 8kW single phase hybrid inverter that runs your solar, your battery and your backup power from one wall mounted unit.

Works with 48V batteries. You can start with solar only and add the battery later, so the system grows with you rather than locking you in on day one.

Your solar powers the house first, anything spare charges the battery, and only what is left after that goes out to the grid. When the grid drops out the inverter switches the house over to battery on its own. Approved by the Clean Energy Council and backed by a 10 year Australian warranty.

The transfer switch is already inside the inverter, so there is no separate change over box to buy or wire in.

How it works day to day

During daylight the inverter sends your solar straight to whatever is running in the house, the same way an ordinary solar inverter does. That is power you are not buying from the grid.

Anything your house is not using goes into the battery instead of being exported for a small feed in payment. Once the battery is full, the surplus then flows out to the grid. After dark the inverter draws the stored energy back out to run the house, so your own solar is still doing the work well after the sun has gone.

Built for larger loads

At 8,000W continuous and 34.8A output, this unit handles a full sized home with ducted air conditioning, an induction cooktop and a pool pump without struggling. The 190A charge and discharge current means a large battery bank can be filled inside a single good solar day, and can also be drawn on hard in the evening peak.

It will take up to 16,000W of panels on the roof, which gives you room to oversize the array so the system still performs on overcast days and through winter.

Staying inside your export limit

Most networks cap how much power a home is allowed to push back into the grid. The optional smart meter and CT clamp show the inverter exactly how much power is moving in and out of your property, so it can hold your exports under that cap by itself.

That same reading lets the inverter decide when to charge and when to discharge based on what the house is actually using. Paired with the time settings you can hold the battery back for the expensive part of the day and charge it when power is cheap.

Power when the grid goes down

An automatic transfer switch is built into the inverter. When it sees the grid fail it moves your backed up circuits across to the battery, so lights, fridge and internet stay on rather than dropping out and coming back.

The changeover takes about 4 milliseconds, which is fast enough that sensitive equipment does not notice it. You can also wire in a generator. The inverter will accept it as a second input and use it to charge the battery, which is useful on properties where an outage can last more than a day.

Adding more solar later

A second AC input can be set up to take power from micro inverters or an existing grid tied solar system. That means a second array can sit further away from the inverter, on a shed or a second roof, without running long DC cables back to the house.

The inverter starts and stops that second array based on how full the battery is, so the extra solar is used rather than wasted.

This inverter must be installed and connected to the grid by an SAA accredited installer. To store energy you also need a compatible 48V battery, which is bought separately.
